NOTD: Marbly accents

This notd was unabashedly inspired by this mani from @lovelylittlelacquers on Instagram. It's not quite a 1:1 copy, but it's close enough that I should credit her for the inspo. I just fell in love with the color combo and marble pattern and had to try it out for myself!

This almost ended really sadly, because the first day I wore this it was terribly dusty outside, to the point where the lighting was too orange to get good photos. There's only so much you can salvage with color correction! (see my floral mani from 31DC2015 for another tragic example). The second day was still dusty, but it cleared up a bit in the afternoon, which is good because by day 3 I usually have enough tipwear that I don't feel comfortable blogging about it. I'd have made an exception for this mani but I'm glad I didn't have to!

#31DC2015 Day 17- Glitter

Glitter is such a deceptively simple theme, isn't it? Since it's pretty broad, I decided to challenge myself to try something out of my comfort zone. In this case, that's bar glitter.

There's a story behind this polish: A while ago, my best went to America, land of the nail polish brands they don't have around here. Since she's also pretty into nail polish (although nowhere near obsessed like I am), I handed her $20 and said "surprise me". She came back with two really gorgeous glitter toppers, and this. I genuinely didn't know what to do with it, so it's been sitting on my shelf pretty much untried for over a year.

I have to say, having now tried it, I like this polish a lot more than I was expecting to! The color scheme is surprisingly flattering for my skin tone, and the bars don't bother me nearly as much as I was expecting. It's fairly opaque in three coats, but I sponged it on to save on "bulk", and then topped it with a couple of peacock feather decals from the Born Pretty Store. It's a little textured after one topcoat, but two layers of topcoat makes it almost completely smooth.

Now I'm thinking I might revisit some other short-matte-bar glitter polishes that I'd put on my destash shelf. I wonder if I'd like those too?

#31DC2015 Day 10- Gradient

The nail polish gods have smiled down upon me today. I wanted to see if I could still get a linear holo effect if I did a sponge gradient with holo polishes, and it worked!! In fact, it kind of looks even more holo than it did pre-gradient. I wonder why that is?

#31DC2015 Day 6- Violet

Ah well... we all gotta have nail fails sometimes. This idea seemed pretty cool in my head but upon execution... no. Just no. I might try to get this design right one day, revenge and all that, but this is not a good nail art (although I'd like to acknowledge that three years ago I'd consider this a success. Progress!)

Well... when you have to do a whole new nail art every day for a month, you're gonna have some fails. And because of the rapid pace, you gotta post what you have!

NOTD: Pastel gradient with flower glitter

This mani is from quite a while back- I have a little bit of a backlog to work through. I may have neglected this blog, but I still did some nail art!

This is a sweet little spring color gradient I made, and for the finishing touch I added some flower glitter on two accent nails:

Polishes used: (I think! This is pretty old so there's a little guesswork involved)
Ga-De 505 Mexican Rose (pink)
Ga-De 435 Peach Sorbet (orange)
Ga-De 502 Curry Delight (yellow) (special thanks to Yael from PaintThemAll for showing this gorgeous yellow to me! I don't often buy yellow so I never would have purchased it otherwsie)
Ga-De 60 Pink Daisy (glitter topper)

New in my Etsy store: Purim duo!

Most of the people who follow this blog also follow my other social media, so you've probably seen these already. Still, I feel I should try to be consistent about sharing new releases on my blog too! So here is a blog post type thingy for my Purim 2015 polishes.

Clowning Around:

Masquerade:

You can also buy them as a pair at a discount, both in Mini and Full size!

Full disclosure: Most of the pictures of my hands are a little bit photoshopped. I only used it to get rid of patches of dry skin or places where my cleanup wasn't great or places where there was residual glitter on my fingers. The polish itself is completely untouched, I wouldn't want a dishonest representation of my product. My fingers, on the other hand, are mine and I am not selling them so I can do with them as I please.

NOTD: New year's mani

I did a pretty simple mani for NYE, since I'm not really a big celebrator of these kinds of things. Still, I really liked the way it looked- plain grey shimmer with some iridescent glitter and star rhinestones with matte topcoat. The topcoat is a little cracked if you look closely, because I applied an extra coat for photos (whoops!)

Announcement: Fedoraharp Lacuer, first collection!

WELCOME TO A NEW ERA OF BLOGGING ON FEDORAHARP!!!! I have mentioned my indie brand before, but here I'm officially announcing it: As of next Sunday, I will be launching my Hanukkah collection in my Etsy shop! Very soon after that I'll be launching my second collection, and a duo (I planned them all simultaneously but Hanukkah gets a bump because of the date).

I've created six Hanukkah themed polishes, four glitter toppers, a jelly/glitter combo, and an opaque shimmer. The polishes in these pictures do not yet have sticker labels, but I will be getting those in a couple of days!

Not to worry though, I'll keep blogging like a regular blogger also. Nail art has always been my first nail polish love, and I won't easily abandon it! Also, there are other indies out there and I'm gonna keep buying from them and swatching them here as long as I have money to burn through spend.

Without further ado, the polishes! These are only partially edited- I slapped a watermark on them, but I haven't cleaned up any flaws around the edges of my nails digitally. For the site they'll be a little cleaner, but I couldn't wait to share these.

Topsy Turvy

I got the name idea from my friend Angie, I'd been trying and trying to think of an appropriately draidel-y name for this brightly colored polish, so thank you Angie! I used a combination of colorful geometric shapes to evoke the (kinda abstract) idea of the colorful fun of a draidel. This is one dabbed coat over a black cream.

Join The Macabbim! See The World!
My inspiration here is, of course, the blue and white shield symbol of the Macabbim, and since they don't make Magen David shaped particles, I decided to use triangles! (No sunlight picture for this one. Whoops!). This is two coats over Color Club Trippie Hippie

Miracle
Since taking these pictures, I have actually tweaked the formula for this nail polish to make it considerably less bumpy and streaky. No flakies, either. I like their look but they're the big culprit for the bumps, sadly. Still, I wanted to show you the glowy shimmer of the base color! If anyone really wants, I've got a couple of the old formulation available upon request, but I'm putting the newer version online. Swatches of that version soon! This is three coats alone.

Sufganiya
This is an inside-out sort of thing- usually the sufganiya color is on the outside, and the jelly color is on the inside, but admit it- the jelly color is wayyyyy prettier. So why not make it the main attraction? This is three thin coats.

Powdered Sugar
What's a good classic sufganiya without a powdery topping? Or topper, as the case may be. I love translucent white glitter, so of course I had to make a polish with some in it! This is one coat over China Glaze Custom Kicks

Chocolate Gold Rush
I have to admit, I did not expect this one to be my favorite when I came up for the idea for it, but I ended up liking it best of all! I knew I wanted to make a gelt-themed nail polish, but I think chocolate coins are the best kind of coins (chocolate anything is the best kind of thing, really), so I based the idea on that. This is one coat over Golden Rose Matte 20 (incidentally, my very favorite neutral polish color ever)

So what do you think? Will you be picking up any of these when the store opens? I'm going to dive right into the holiday spirit with a 10% off everything sale, and I will be making full sized (15ml) and mini (5ml) versions of each polish available.

NOTD: Glitter and marbles

A while back a friend of mine brought me some polish from the USA, and among the polishes she brought was Sally Hansen Grape Shifter. It's a gorgeous glitterbomb composed mostly of fuschia hexes, bright teal shimmer, and larger silver holo hexes. To showcase the glitter, I decided to create a matching water marble. Water marble accents are the best, because you get the cool effect but since you're just doing a few fingers it takes far less time!

I put two coats of Grape Shifter over a fuchsia base (the same fuchsia that I used in the marble, but I can't remember what it was), but I think it would be fully opaque in three coats. It already was very nearly opaque here!

Swatched: Ga-de Designs collection

Ga-de has done it again! They are definitely scoping the market, because they just released a collection (called Designs from what I've been able to ascertain) that is similar to a lot of the glitter bombs put out by some of the more well know indies out there.

This series has four polishes, each composed of two different sizes of hexes plus one larger type of glitter. For two of them the larger glitters are flowers, and for the other two they are stars.

A note on the formula: They all have the same application- it's very easy to apply the hexes, and you have to do a little fishing around and placement to get the larger glitters out. Still, it's not very hard to 'catch' the larger glitters, they're fairly cooperative. And that's more or less the standard application for particles that size. I noticed that the stars were slightly easier than the flowers, possibly because the pointy tips get caught in the brush more easily. Then again, it was really a very slight difference, so I could be imagining it.

Pink Daisy (60)

Daisy Bloom (61)

Blue Star (63)

Rising Star (64) (aka why did Ga-de make a Captain America polish? Not that I'm complaining)

Each of these polishes can be purchased at Superpharm for around 15 shekel, unless they're not 'on sale' (really they're usually 15 shekel or so and occasionally they 'end the sale' to show us what a good deal we're getting paying 15). Sometimes you can get Ga-de polishes at Hamasbir too, but they usually have a smaller selection, and not so much new stuff.

Which one of these do you want?
