31DC2013 Day 7- Black & White nails

Okay, this miiiiiight be cheating. Just a little. I did this in permanent marker with the full knowledge that I couldn't use top coat or it'd smudge, meaning this isn't really something I could wear as a manicure.

In my defense, my nail art pen has just run dry, and I could have done the exact same art with that if it'd still been functional, minus the smudging. Plus, LabMuffin has a techique for using sharpie on nail polish viably. Which I'm definitely going to try one day, I just have to pick up PVC glue. Again. Because I lost mine.

I had really wanted to do some of the score for Take Five on my nails, but I was in a bit of a hurry and I couldn't get enough detail quickly enough. Perhaps next time!

31DC2013 Day 6- Violet nails

Hopefully by the time this post goes live, I will be on my way home from a loooong morning in Synagogue. And this is what I will be wearing on my nails!

I did the violet nails last, so the black-and-white nails you'll see tomorrow have actually already been erased. This one seemed perfect for doing a subtle-yet-bold look that's perfect for a morning of somber prayer.

I happen to have more holos in the violet family than any other color, so it worked out perfectly for a geometric tape mani. I'm somewhat concerned, because of how tiny the bottles are for two of them- Pupa is only 5 ml! Hopefully I'll be able to buy them again when these get used up.

31DC2013 Day 5- Blue nails

Greetings from the past! For the next three days everything you see was written and photographed on Wednesday. Gotta get creative for the high holidays after all :)

So of course, being blue day, there is one thing that I absolutely had to do:

TARDIS nails!

I actually frankened this blue myself, because I have yet to find a truly perfect TARDIS blue. And after months of searching, I simply decided to make one myself. I love how it turned out- glossy crelly finish, sooooo shiny! And the perfect shade- not too dark that I can't draw on it, but just dark enough to look right.

Unfortunately, no Hannah nails for the next three days, since she didn't have time to prepare her manis in advance. She told me she'd like to catch up, so perhaps on Sunday we'll have a Hannah picspam!

31DC2013 Day 4- Green nails

Greeeeeeeeeeeeen! I've been looking forward to green. I really needed to stretch my brain for orange and yellow, since I don't like them so much on my skin, but green is easy!

In fact, it was so easy that I had too many ideas and panicked. I'm quite happy with the results, but let me tell you- too many ideas is just as bad as too few ideas!

I tried basically to do as many things as possible but still not look too busy. I like how it came out! There's gradient, there's stamping, there's glitter, something for everyone. (Everyone, of course, being me)

You know, I can never predict how a manicure can be recieved. Yesterday I had this whole delicate floral hand-painted thing going on, and no one really noticed. Today with stamps, I got compliments from half the office! And they're mostly dudes! I don't even know anymore.

Hannah nails:

I love how her photography is already improving so much. And I adore her brushstroke mani!

So here's a problem: I'm Jewish, and tonight begins the high holidays. That's three days (one being Sabbath) with no computer! So I've decided to queue up all three days in advance, that way I won't miss any. I'd left myself a bit of a buffer anyway, so that I had leeway in case I missed a day (I'm two days ahead of schedule, but I post on time). I'm gonna take that opportunity now. So as far as my blog is concerned, nothing will be missed. Unfortunately, that means no twitter or tumblr updates, so anyone who wants to see my nails will just have to be here, I guess!

31DC2013 Day 3- Yellow nails

Finally! A day in which I have both brought my camera home with me and took some fairly decent photos.

So I've been utterly dreading yellow day, since I Do Not Look Good in yellow. But I'm actually really happy with what I ended up doing! I may even do this art again when I can leave it on for more than a day. I tried out some new polish from the Chic Sugar Baby collection- the first Israeli produced liquid sand! It just came out about a week ago, so i'll be swatching a bunch of them soon. The flowers I did using acrylic paint. I tried to make normal looking leaves but since the flower took up most of the nail, I went with more abstract. More pictures to follow, but first, Hannah!

Rubber ducky family! I don't know where she came up with the idea, but it's adorable. Hannah has the same dread of yellow that I do, so she did them on a blue base.

I ended up photographing my nails later in the day, so I have some wonky lighting issues going on here- I did my best to adjust the colors, more pictures below the jump!

31DC2013 Day 2- Orange nails!

Yesterday there was the Curse of the Forgotten Camera, today is the Curse of the Dead Batteries! But have no fear, I have pictures. They're not so great since I had to hurriedly snap whatever I could get, but they're pictures!

Freehand monarch butterfly wings! This is OPI Sprung layered over a generic orange, with acrylic paint for the design. I'm not overly fond of orange, but I was pretty happy with this one.

31 Days Challenge 2013: Day one- Red

So with some trepidation, I've decided to try to do #31DC2013.

And of course, on day one I left my camera at work. How predictable.

Still, not to leave anyone hanging, I have some pictures anyway! First of all, my friend Hannah has decided to participate with me, and since she doesn't have a blog I'll be posting her stuff alongside mine. She still has some improving to do with her photography, but her freehand is incredible:

And then there's me, who left my camera at work, so I'm going to have to post a rerun for today (oh this is going to go so very well, I can feel it in my bones)

And yes, your eyes do not deceive you: I put in a watermark! I've been meaning to do that for a while. I'm still pretty amateur at it, so if anyone has suggestions on how to make it more aesthetically pleasing, I'm all ears.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring some slightly more successful art. Hopefully. Then again, it's orange, which is a color I generally do *not* get along with. Wish me luck! To see who else is participating, hit the jump!
